Line Art Artist Statement

My artwork looks like a bunch of lines combined together to create abstract art combined with a variety of colors and different shapes. It is a piece made of primarily a mirror design where I had one design and flipped it four different ways to create a quadruple sized design. The primary subject matter is just lines and shapes combined to create a mirroring design. The title of my work is “Outta Style” because I named it after a song I was listening to while I was making this art project as well as it could be referred to as the art having a bit of a modern look so it’s not “out of style” if that would make sense. The elements that are most obvious in my work are the lines all coming together to create a focal point within the triangle in the middle of the piece.

The media I used to create this artwork was colored pencils. This art project was simply made up of mainly just out of paper, pencils, pens, rulers, stencils, and colored pencils. The techniques I used was that we drew an abstract design of lines on one small piece of paper and we took that paper and flipped it 4 different ways so that there would be a mirrored design in different directions across the page. I used Prisma Colored Pencils to color in all the different designs and lines I had in my work.

The people that inspired my artwork was Mrs. Seitz because she told me that it would be a good idea to try and create a focal point for my piece so I envisioned how it would look when I put all the pieces together and I made all of my lines go into the corner of my original drawing so it would make it look like all the lines were going to one main spot on the final drawing. My work doesn’t express any social or personal issues. I didn’t try to express any emotions throughout my artwork either.

My goals as an artist is to become better as a free hand drawer because I’m really not that good at it right now. This piece kind of helped me improve on that because I had several shapes to draw without a stencil and it was sometimes very difficult to free hand that. But I did end up using a lot of rulers and other stencils so if it did help me at all, it was very minor.

In creating this artwork, I learned that I should trace over things in pencil first before tracing over it in sharpie so that I have the right line down on the paper first. The final piece was pretty much what I imagined but I didn’t expect to have the layout of images that I did in my final piece. This piece will influence my future artwork because it made me a better artist in general and will help me be more precise on my next piece.
